For Day 3, I decided to totally change and go into abstract. This is a style that I don't always understand but I have come to respect it more and more through my Fine Arts studies at Uni. Oh, you might not know that I am fully self taught technically, however, 2 years ago I decided to go back to Uni and do a Fine Arts degree. To my surprise they don't teach us techniques but they do teach us to experiment and to understand how other artists work and where they come from with their art, They also teach us to let go of self imposed barriers and tap into creativity. So I suppose the challenge is just the natural path to take after a couple of years of Fine Arts. I have not managed to do many abstracts that I felt comfortable with before and it always feel fake or forced. Today however, I was not in the mood for figurative, actually I felt like giving up on the challenge for the day. So I decided to just enjoy the process of the abstract and to my greatest surprise, I loved it. It relaxed me so much and all I could think about was which colour and where the next stroke would be. This is oil on canvas, 8in by 8in. Actually, my regret is that I did not make it on a slightly bigger canvas because the process was so enjoyable, I just wanted to keep on going. Once I finished, applying the paint, I thought that it needed a sparkle, so I added silver leaf. I love the way colours mix with oil but I think in order to be able to do more and not have to wait too much for the paint to dry in abstracts, I will have to use acrylics next time. I will see if it feels as freeing as oils did. I feel that this painting has flow and energy. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it. It is available on eBay so if you are interested in it head there.
