Day 1: 1 artwork a day or I just can't play!
So today, I actually decided to post an artwork I did a few days ago which was the precursor of the 1 artwork a day challenge for me.
I am following a few artists on instagram, I am in love with some of the daily art I see and particularly Jel Ena. She is a fabulous portrait daily painter and does mostly mini portraits of women and cats. If you don't know her work you should go and check her instagram feed, she is fabulous! Along with the work of Carol Marine (see yesterday's post for her links), Jel Ena has inspired to try and go into the daily art movement. I was inspired by her mini women portrait and decided, that I wanted to have a go at a mini portrait myself. This 10 by 15 cm and you can see it as is or framed. It is oil on paper. I did manage to stick to the 3hours I had allocated myself. This was a challenge in many ways. First I had not work with oils for about a year to a year and a half. I find the oil smell both amazing and revolting. So I had to invest into odourless oils. Even though I have a passion for oils, it was a little weird getting back into oils after so much time using watercolours and acrylics. Second, I have never painted that small and finally, faces are one of my biggest challenges in painting. I love drawing them and I am ok at it but painting is a whole different kettle of fish. I have loved finishing one artwork in a couple of hours. It feels like such an achievement. I like it but I think I can improve. All the miniature eyes and lips... are hard to paint. Lucky I had bought some tiny brushes. Also her nose looks a little weird but otherwise, she is not bad for a first try. Can't wait to keep on going! Hope you enjoy. If you are interested in buying this piece, it is now for sale on eBay at https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/273018745021
Can't wait to show you more work. X Gin
